Katlin McAvoy of Warren has been named to the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement for the spring 2013 semester at Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA. Students with a grade average in the range of 3.300 to 3.599 for a semester’s work are placed on the dean’s list.
Stephanie L. Thomas, a 2007 graduate of Warren Area High School and daughter of Randy and Linda Thomas, graduated magna cum laude with a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. While at the University at Buffalo, she was a member of the Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society, vice president of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists, and published as a primary author in the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. Dr. Thomas is currently completing a one-year residency at the Erie VA Medical Center. After completing her residency she plans to work as a clinical pharmacist.
Jacob Sorensen, son of Rebecca Sorensen of Warren, has been selected to participate in the C-MITES (Carnegie Mellon Institute for Talented Elementary and Secondary Students) Summer Program for academically talented students. Sorensen will attend the “Explorations in Science” class at the Learning Enrichment Center July 8-12. He is a student at Warren County Christian School. The program offers challenging courses for gifted students who are interested in exploring concepts and applications at a high level and a fast pace.
Mikayla Holden of Sheffield has been accepted to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania for the fall semester. A graduate of Sheffield High School, she has been active in 4-H, scholastic trap, Pennsylvania High School Rodeo, yearbook (as editor) and choir. Holden has not declared a major. She is the daugher of Tammi Holden and Tom Holden.
Jordan G. English graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh on April 28, earning a bachelor of arts degree in communications with dual minors in political science and legal studies. English was awarded a certificate in Leadership from the Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences and is a member of Lambda Sigma Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leaders Organization, and earned a co-curricular learning certificate at Arcadia University in Athens, Greece. English has been accepted into the Michigan State University law program for the fall where he plans to pursue his juris doctorate.
Students named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses of Jamestown Community College earned at least a 3.50 average, equal to a B plus or better, in 12 or more semester hours of study. Named were:
