Tigers fighting cancer at June ‘kick-a-thon’
Kimio Nelson’s Fighting Tigers Martial Arts held its annual Kick-A-Thon on Saturday, June 15. The students raised $1,400 with all proceeds from the event going to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. Each student threw kicks for the event with pledge donors giving a certain amount per kick or a flat donation. The top three fund raisers were given first, second and third place trophies. First was Jessica Baccus, second Teagan Gray and third Karson Lyon.
Nelson explained to the students prior to the event that he held the annual kick-a-thon because he wanted to give back to the community. He felt that the students should also learn that it is important to participate by being involved in helping others. He thanked all the students and parents for their participation. He also thanked all the local sponsors for their help in making the kick-a-thon a success. Nelson also noted that he was dedicating this kick-a-thon to his long time friend and fellow martial artist Mikki Machalinski who has been battling cancer.
Area sponsors that provided products or services to the event were All Image Graphics, Warren McDonalds, B&N Trophies, Great Lakes Custom Graphics, Barbi Baccus and WestEnd Take-Out.
