Jay Michael Gorton, 54, of Indian Camp Run Rd., Youngsville, passed away Saturday, July 6, surrounded by his family, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 31, 1959 in Warren, a son of Jay L. Gorton and his companion Geraldine Knolton, who survives him of Youngsville, and the late Rose Manno Gorton. Jay was a 1978 graduate of Youngsville High School and was employed by the Youngsville Borough for many years. He enjoyed doing bodywork on cars and trucks, of which he entered in many car shows. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 658 in Youngsville and was an avid Steelers fan. Jay will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

In addition to his father, Jay is survived by his loving wife Deborah Papalia Gorton, who he married in 1980 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Warren, a daughter Brandi Gorton of Youngsville and her companion CJ Jones, his siblings, Jeff Gorton of Clarendon and his companion Kim Jameson, Ginger (Rusty) Williams of Irvine, Tammi Nelson of Bradford and her fiance Scott Gustafson, Kelly (Todd) Kibbey and David Gorton, a brotherinlaw, Joseph (Judy) Papalia, all of Warren, his many nieces and nephews, Bruce, Jess, Brad, Dustin, Sam, Ashley, Nicole, Brandon, Angel, Joanne and Jamie and his grand dog Road Toad.

In addition to his mother, Jay was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gilbert and Emma Gorton and Sam and Vera Manno, and a brother and sisterinlaw Norm and Veronica Rodgers.

Friends will be received on Tuesday (July 9th) from 36 p.m. at the EUM Church, 18 Second St. in Youngsville, at which time a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. The Rev. Seth McClymond, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Youngsville, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made at Northwest Savings Bank in Jay Gorton’s name to help the family defray medical expenses.
