Congregation moves; Y’ville church razed

When the building doesn’t meet the vision, it’s time for a new building.

That’s the situation that prompted the Youngsville Free Methodist Church to build a new facility at 179 Davis St. in place of their prior home at 225 E. Main St.

“The vision behind that was to reach out into the community in a more powerful way for Christ,” Pastor Kathy Thompson said, explaining that the new facility, where the church currently meets, has been divided into three sections: the sanctuary, lobby and “the whole gym area for (the) community,” which she estimated at approximately half of the new building.

She said that the church sold their prior locale to the Rouse. “They’re using our other building as a day care,” Thompson added.

She said the prior building, which was originally constructed in 1880, “was not big enough for our vision. (We) needed to step out.”

Demolition efforts were underway on Wednesday to tear down the former church building.
