GIRLS MINORS: Girls Minors rough up Bradford to extend all-star campaign

BRADFORD – Warren’s baserunning, pitching and defense earned a 12-0 Girls Minors All-Star win at Bradford on Wednesday.

Alexis Nyquist led off the game with a base hit for Warren’s 9-10-year-olds, and stole second, third and home for the first run of the night.

That was the theme of the night on offense, with Warren scoring in all four innings of the shortened 10-run rule game, including seven runs in the top of the fourth.

Nyquist finished with two runs and three RBI, and Taylor Childress scored twice as all nine spots in the order scored at least one run.

Mallorie Baumgrotz reached base in both her at bats.

Jordan Sitler earned the win with four shutout innings, striking out four, and Warren made several nice plays defensively.

Nyquist ranged for a ball up the middle and threw a runner out at first from shortstop, and second baseman Childress ranged for a ball that had deflected off the pitcher Sitler, for an out.

Alex Neureiter stranded the bases loaded in the first with a nice snag at third for a force out.

The outfielders came to play, with Braydn Wilson catching a fly ball down the rightfield line, and centerfielder Kelsey Stuart gunning out a runner at third base where Baumgrotz made the tag.

Warren (2-1) hosts Saint Marys at 6 p.m. Friday at Hawbaker Field in the losers bracket final. Punxsutawney beat Saint Marys, 3-1, on Wednesday in the winnners bracket final to advance to the North/South finals. Saint Marys defeated Warren, 5-3, on Saturday in the winners bracket semifinals.
