LEGION: Post 135 runs record to 6-0

Warren Post 135 improved to 6-0 on the Senior American Legion Baseball League season with a 10-0 victory over Youngsville Post 658, Tuesday, at Davis Street Field in Youngsville.

Despite being the home team, Post 135 played this “home” game on the home field of Youngsville Post 658. The location of the game was moved after Monday’s regularly scheduled Boys Juniors all-star game was rained out and rescheduled for Tuesday at Old Legion Field in North Warren.

Post 135 had little trouble making Davis Street Field its own, scoring a quick run in the first to take an early lead and ultimately putting the game away with a nine-run fourth. The matchup was called after four and a half innings because of the 10-run rule.

Hank Morrison and Matt Jaskolka got Post 135 rolling in the bottom of the first, hitting up Youngsville starting pitcher Aaron Hoover for back-to-back doubles. Jaskolka’s double scored Morrison and the “hosts” led, 1-0.

Hoover and Post 135 starter Jaskolka went arm-to-arm for the next several innings and the 1-0 score held until the bottom of the fourth where Warren broke the game wide open.

Tanner Stanz and Ryan Gustafson led off the inning with singles, moved up on Brad Walters’ sacrifice bunt and both scored on Jake Retterer’s 2-run double. Sammy Sherrard followed with a single and Schwanke brought home Retterer with an RBI groundout that made it 4-0.

The next seven Post 135 batters reached base in succession as the lead swelled to 10-0. Todd Fasenmyer brought home a run with an RBI single and Morrison crushed a two-run homer. Jaskolka then singled before Stanz, Gustafson and Walters all walked in succession to bring home another run that pushed the lead to 8-0.

Pinch hitter Tristan Rushia then put the game into the mercy rule category with a two-run single that brought home Stanz and Gustafson.

In the top of the fifth, Jaskolka made sure the game would end early by striking out Shane Arford and getting both Thomas Henry and Caleb Linkerhof to groundout to third, retiring the side in order.
