The celebration will be held June 28-30. Holiday bunting is available at the Youngsville Hardware for $10. The committee is ncouraging residents and businesses to purchase them and decorate the town for the Bicentennial Celebration.
A fish- fry will be held on Friday, June 28, at the Youngsville Firehall from 4:30-6 p.m. Also on Friday evening, a scavenger hunt will held at 7 p.m., covering all of Youngsville. Railroad Street will be open. One prize will be given to the first person to collect or solve all clues.
The Bicentennial Parade will be on Saturday, June 29, starting 11 a.m. Parade route will begin in the EUM parking lot on 3rd Street, proceed though Youngsville and end at Bates Street . Any questions , contact Jean Zock at 563-7807.
Bicentennial food vendors are welcome. Applications for food vendors for the June 29 Bicentennial Celebration at Island Park are still being accepted. A token fee of $20 is required to hold your space and then returned to you.

If you would like to participate in the apple pie baking contest the rules are as follows: 2 age divisions: Adult 18 and older and Junior 12-17. Each pie must be made from scratch, crust and filling, a list of ingredients must accompany the entry. The pie must be in a disposable 9″ pie pan. Judging for the contest will be at 3:30 on Saturday, June 30, all pies must be at the Island Park by 2 pm.
The committee is giving prizes for the best period costume, the best apple pie, and the beard contest, we need volunteers to head each of these contest. “A Beautiful Prospect” will be aired by audio transmission in the Community Hall at Island Park with the displays of historical items. Copies of the audio CD’s will be available.

Souvenirs will be available at the Borough Office before and during the celebration. Ther is an 18-month calendar of old time photos, a sun catcher and t-shirts. Bicentennial shares for sale.
A clean- up day is planned on June 22; bring your brooms, shovels, energy to Island Park at 9 a.m. to help beautify the town.

Father’s Day at St. Luke
Father’s Day saw the Altar/Rosary Society of St. Luke serve breakfast to the fathers, sons and daughters of the parish. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and sweet rolls were served. Drawings were held for gifts. The guest speaker was Ken Klacamp, Sheriff of Warren County. Sheriff Klacamp spoke about the Drug Awareness Task Force, the drug problem that exists in Warren County and ways that homeowners can better protect their homes. It was brought out that those looking for drugs oftentimes case people’s homes by studying the obituary page of the newspaper. A question and answer session followed the presentation.
Girl Scout Cadets Troop 30699 hosted the Front Porch Planter project event on Saturday, June 8, held at Youngsville Agway with assistance from Master Gardeners. Community members in Youngsville/Pittsfield areas were invited to receive a free planter box filled with vegetable and herb plants. The event was a great success placing 100 boxes into community households. Their project idea was a result from the girls participating in the Challenge and Change: Challenge Yourself, Change the World national teen leadership program funded by the US Department of Agriculture. The program is specifically for girls who live in rural areas and teaches the girls about social entrepreneurship in their communities.
The Front Porch Planter project is designed to helped community members gain interest in gardening, grow and eat their own vegetables and promote healthy lifestyles. YHS 45th Reunion
The YHS Class of 1968 will be holding its 45th class reunion during Homecoming Weekend September 20-21, in conjunction with Alumni Weekend. The YHS Homecoming game will be Friday evening, September 20, with a chance for class members to meet at the Alumni tent during the game, followed by an informal gathering at the American Legion after the game.
Breakfast at Richard’s Restaurant at 9 a.m. on Saturday will be another chance to talk to classmates of 1968, along with other alumni from many other classes. From 1- 3 in the afternoon an old hangout, Apblanalp’s Dairy Bar, will be open for reminiscing. The Alumni Committee has planned a dinner at the Firehall from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (cost is $10 – reservations required) and an evening dance from 8-midnight (cost $10).

Calling all YHS Alumni….the Alumni Committee is busy planning the YHS Homecoming weekend celebration September 19-21. Kicking off the event on Thursday is the annual Homecoming Parade and Bonfire. Alumni are invited to join in the march down Main St as we support our football team to victory. Friday, at 5:30, alumni are invited to a Tour of YHS followed by the Homecoming Football game. Watch for the Alumni Tent gathering at the game and sign in for future info available to all Alumni. Saturday is a busy day starting at 9 a.m. with the Alumni Breakfast at Richard’s, followed by a Cruise-In Poker Run and an Open House at Abplanalps Dairy Bar from 1-3:00. Come visit your favorite hang-out with hosts, Jack and Florence Abplanalps. Saturday evening will be the Alumni Dinner at the Youngsville Firehall honoring Guest of Honors, Jack and Florence Abplanalp.
Come ad share stories with Jack and Florence about the days of Abplanalps Dairy Bar and listen to their memories of Youngsville’s teens. This is also a great time to meet other alumni and visit with your past teachers from YHS. Joining in the events will be Class of 1963 celebrating their 50th reunion and the class of 1968 celebrating their 45th.
Following the dinner, stay for a good old rock-n-roll dance with Necessary Experience.

Youngsville First United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School will be held from 5:45 to 8:45 p.m. June 24 – 28.
The closing program will be Friday, June 28, at 8:30 p.m. All children ages 3 through those who have finished Grade 6 are welcome.
The Youngsville High School volleyball team will have a car wash on Saturday, June 22, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at NAPA in Youngsville. Also, they will have a bake sale; everything is by donation.
A farewell dinner for Rev. John Gerber and Rev. Net Gerber and family was held at the Evangelical United Methodist Church on June 18. The Gerbers’ have been re- assigned to Springfield in the Erie-Meadville District.
