SOFTBALL ALL-STARS: Lady Dragons garner eight region all-star picks

The Warren softball team had another fantastic season, compiling a 16-2 record, outscoring its opposition 182-13 and finishing as the runner-up to PIAA runner-up Fort LeBoeuf in District 10 for the third straight season.

As expected, the Lady Dragons were well represented when Region 7 all-star selections for the 2013 season were released earlier this week. All told, Warren had eight region all-star picks, including three first-teamers and five more second-teamers. In addition, junior pitcher Alexa Bupp was named the Region 7 pitcher of the year – her second straight selection as region pitcher of the year.

Bupp was dominant in the circle for the Dragons, pitching all but one game in 2013. She finished with a 15-2 record and miniscule ERA of 0.55. She had 10 shutouts and allowed just eight earned runs on 49 hits in 102 innings of work. She struck out 137 batters and walked just 18. Bupp was also named the Region 7 first-team all-star at pitcher.

Joining Bupp on the first team were sophomore first baseman Meghan Loutzenhiser and junior second baseman Kaitlin Ishman. Loutzenhiser batted .431 this season with two homers and 21 RBI – good enough for third on the team. Ishman Ishman batted .537 and collected 15 extra base hits, including four homers, five doubles and six triples. She also knocked in 17 runs and scored 32 times.

Second-team Region 7 all-stars for Warren were freshman catcher Paige Wilson, senior third baseman Taylor Mineweaser, senior shortstop Jaimie Eaton, senior outfielder Erica Blair and junior outfielder Kennedy Walter. Wilson had arguably the biggest offensive impact for the Dragons in 2013, batting a team-best .590 and smacking four homers and a team-best 28 RBI.

Mineweaser, Eaton and Blair all had fantastic final seasons for Warren, batting .250, .407 and .302 respectively. Walter batted .417 and drove in 10 runs for the blue and white.

Both the Youngsville Eagles and Eisenhower Knights were represented by outfielders on the Region 5 first-team. Ike junior Ashley Barnett and Eagles junior Jessica Jameson found their names on the first-team list when selections were revealed.

It was a difficult season for the Lady Knights at 2-12. However, Barnett had a nice season finishing with a .362 batting average while knocking in seven runs.

Jameson held down the centerfield position for the 5-9 Eagles and batted .343 while driving in five runners.
