In April, Melissa Swanson Braley was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and required surgery. Melissa began treatments in May. Melissa passed away last week.
Tom, her husband, has been working through this as much as possible while caring for their two young daughters, Taylor, age 12, and Caidy, age 6. Due to the bills they have been incurring and no medical coverage, they have not only been fighting cancer but also financial hardships.
Their family and friends will be holding a benefit on Saturday, June 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Russell Fire Hall. The benefit will have a Chicken BBQ dinner, Chinese auction, live auction, bake sale, and music. Help support this family by donating gift certificates or gift cards towards the auctions. Any donations given whether big or small are greatly appreciated.
The Sugar Grove Free Library Book Club will meet June 24. The reading choice for the month is “The Burgess Boys” by Elizabeth Strout, currently on the New York Times bestsellers list. Strout is a Pulitzer Prize winner for another of her novels both which are based in Maine. There are several hard backs at the library to be shared and the library’s Kindle has the book and, of course, if you have a Kindle or Nook, go to the library and borrow from it.
Read and join us for our fun book club meeting.
