Simply put, Warren boys tennis has been dominant the last two seasons.

In 2013, the Dragons once again dominated District 10 tennis, sweeping the D-10 singles, doubles and team titles for the second straight season.

Because of this, it came as little surprise when Warren tennis players dominated the list of 2013 District 10 and Region 2 all-stars when they were released on Sunday.

Senior Shane Burns won his second straight District 10 Class AA singles tennis title and was once again named to the all-District 10 team. Burns also was awarded his first Region player of the year title.

His teammates, the brother duo of senior Matt Sandberg and sophomore Nathan Sandberg captured the D-10 Class AA doubles title and were also named to the all-District 10 team for the 2013 season. The D-10 doubles title – and inclusion on the all-District 10 team – was the second for Matt and first for younger brother Nathan.

When it comes to region all-stars, it’s pretty easy to name Warren’s representatives for the recently completed season. After all, the entire starting lineup was named to the Region 2 all-star team this season.

Burns, Sandberg and Sandberg may sound like a law firm, but in boys tennis it represents three of the four Region 2 singles all-stars for the 2013 campaign. Joining them as Region 2 doubles all-stars were the duos of seniors Nick Tarpenning and Grayson Foley and seniors Liam Boger and Ylli Bakalli.

The Dragons finished the team season with an overall record of 15-1, defeating Harbor Creek in the D-10 Class AA semifinals and Fairview in the D-10 Class AA championship. Warren then defeated Vincentian Academy in the opening round of the PIAA team playoffs before falling to eventual PIAA champion Wyomissing in the PIAA quarterfinals for the second straight season.
