Golf results

Pete Hofert had low gross of 36 and Dick Pollaro and Bill Martin shared low net of 31 in Youngsville Area Senior Men’s Golf League play, Tuesday, at Maplehurst Country Club. Hofert and Bob Bires had two birdies each while Jim Rose, Bill Young and Ray Adams added one birdie each.

Late Over 30

Club Buck rallied from a double-digit deficit, scoring 12 runs over the fourth and fifth innings of a 16-14 win over The Bullpen, in Late Over 30 Modified Softball League action Tuesday at Betts Park. Brandon Ferman, Dan Flatt and Mike Brinley all had multi-hit games as Club Buck rallied and Jason Holt belted a deep homer. R.J. Bowers homered in defeat for Bullpen.

College news

Warren Area High School graduate and California University of Pennsylvania women’s swim team member Kelsey Nuhfer was selected as a Capital One At-Large First-Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the junior’s second inclusion on the list after being named to the third-team last season as a sophomore.

Nuhfer becomes just the seventh student-athlete in school history to repeat as Academic All-American. She set personal-best times this season in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events while also tying her best time in the 200 freestyle. She qualified for the 2013 PSAC Championships in the 50 and 100 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, while also swimming on three relay teams at the league championships.


Maddie Fetczek had a double and triple and reached base four times for United Refining in a Girls Majors game with D&I Silica on Tuesday. She was incorrectly identified as Maddie Fiscus in Wednesday’s Times Observer.
