Beaty students raise funds to fight cancer
Nearly 200 sixth-grade students at Beaty-Warren Middle School raised $2,693.15 for the American Cancer Society.
Terry Borger, one of the sixth-grade teachers, said, “The theme of our annual event is ‘Celebrate life, Remember survivors, and Fight Back against cancer’. Today, we celebrate with the Relay for Life.” She added that the school has been participating in the relay for more than 10 years.
To raise the money, Linda Falconer, another teacher, explained, “We asked the kids, ‘How many of you know 10 adults?’ Everyone raised their hands, and we asked them to ask friends, family members and neighbors to donate one dollar each. So we’re here fighting for a cure.”
Teacher Susan Howe listed some of the events the students were having fun with on Friday. She said, “There will be students walking the track at all times, and groups will rotate through face painting and tattoos, a clothes relay, whiffle ball, musical chairs, hiking and more.”
