Post 658 improves to 2-1 with win over Corry Savings Bank
Youngsville Post 658 improved to 2-1 on the young Senior American Legion Baseball League season with a 6-3 victory over Corry Northwest Savings Bank, Sunday, at The Ballpark at Columbus.
The Post 658 team never produced a huge inning, but it did manage to score at least one run in five of its seven times at the plate. Brandon Cochran did the pitching and earned the win as Corry managed to plate runs in only one inning – a three-run fifth.
Post 658 got things going early when Jake Marino delivered a first-inning single and scored on Kyle Hunt’s RBI groundout. In the third inning, Hunt was again in the middle of the scoring play when the first of his two doubles on the night followed the first of Cory Craig’s two doubles on the night and Youngsvilled led 2-0.
Post 658 made it 5-0 after four and a half innings, scoring once in the fourth and twice more in the fifth. In the fourth, Cochran drew a walk and Levi Hendrickson was inserted into the lineup to run for him. Aaron Hoover then brought home Hendrickson with an RBI single. In the fifth, Craig and Hunt hit back-to-back doubles once more to plate another run and Caleb Linkerhof’s run-scoring single brought home the fifth run of the night.
After Corry responded with a three-spot in the bottom of the fifth, Youngsville immediately stopped the bleeding by extending the advantage back to three runs. An RBI single from Ryan Williams in the top of the sixth scored Marino and concluded the night’s scoring.
Post 658 will return to action Thursday when it hosts Blair Corporation at Davis Street Field in Youngsville.
