SALLY COURTNEY

Sally Courtney, 78, of Youngsville, Pa., died at the family residence near Chandlers Valley after an extended illness on May 30, 2013 surrounded by family. Born on February 23, 1935 in Warren, Pa. to the late Edward and Grace Cuthberson Morse. Sally is survived by her sisters Mabel (Late Bill) Horner of Youngsville, Pa., Kathleen (Late Terry) Barton of Youngsville, Pa., and Mary Akif of Warren, Pa., her four daughters Beverly (Edgar) Robertson of Durham, North Carolina, Candy (Michael) O’Dell of Columbus, Pa., Penny (Douglas) CourtneyWhite of Sugar Grove, Pa., and Lisa (Robert) Craig of Fredericksburg, Va., her son Timothy (Kimberly) Courtney of Sugar Grove, Pa., grandchildren Allen Sliter of Florida, Jamie Lawson of Corry, Pa., Courtney Lawson of Erie, Pa., Bryan (Veronica) Lawson of Pittsburgh, Pa., Erin Baumgard ner of Oregon, Shaun (Danette) Courtney of Russell, Pa., Katelynn (Rob) Sorrell of Marienville, Pa., Makenzee Courtney, Jaycob Courtney both of Youngsville, Pa., and Joslin (Jenny) Courtney of Sugar Grove, Pa. Sally also had two stepgrandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “GG”.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Courtney, whom she married on October 13, 1952 and died on December 10, 2000, her sister Kay Conroy of New Jersey, and her granddaughter, Melissa Courtney, of Sugar Grove, Pa.

Sally attended Warren High School and remained active with classmates, attending monthly class reunion luncheons. She worked at and retired from Warren State Hospital. She enjoyed cooking for friends, family and a variety of organizations. Sally had been an active member of Youngsville Chapter No. 478, Order of the Eastern Star, serving that organization in several capacities including Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Youngsville American Legion Auxiliary, Warren Moose Club, and Amaranth. Additionally, Sally was a proud member and active with the Farrahettes of Farrah Grotto and was instrumental in coordinating and conducting social activities which brought joy to residents of local group homes.

Sally was a volunteer with Hospice of Warren County; the same agency whose invaluable services she herself received at the end of her long, memorable life. She also supported the Victim Impact Panel (V.I.P.) in memory of her granddaughter, Melissa Courtney.

Friends and family will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Saturday from 68 p.m., 14 p.m. on Sunday and also for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there on Monday, June 3, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Marcus Briggs, pastor of the Rouse Warren Co. Home, officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Chandlers Valley Cemetery. Members of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 478 will conduct their ritual on Saturday at 6 p.m.
