LITTLE LEAGUE…05/29/13

James Swanson had an unassisted triple play on Tuesday in Means Sales and Service’s Boys Minors win.

At shortstop, with runners on second and third, Swanson caught a liner, tagged the runner running from second to third initially, then ran and tagged the runner stuck between third and home for a rare unassisted triple play.

Jacob DeSimone and Gage Hendrickson doubled for Dairy Queen in an 8-7 five-inning victory over Whirley in Boys Minors action on Tuesday night.

Two doubles from Mitch Grosch and a solid pitching performance from Nick Hussey propelled United Refining Co. to a 11-3 win over Real Living Avista in Boys Majors play on Wednesday. Collin Salapek also chipped in a double for United. For Real Living Avista, Carter Knapp had two hits and Dakota Chase turned a double play.

An eight run third paved the way for Truck-Lite to secure a win against Inscale Architects in Boys Majors play.

The eight run third was highlighted by a three-run triple from Nate Eadie, who also scored on the play on an overthrow. Drew Williams was two for three for Truck-Lite, including a triple. Jaydon Hayes picked up the win on the mound.

Kayla Hecei had 3 hits and Kassidy Turner added 2 hits in Anderson Construction’s 15-10 girls minors win over Whirley. Mallorie Baumgratz had six strikeouts in the final two innings to finish the game. Stevie Stallings made a great defensive play at shortstop for Anderson Construction.

Hoover Oil Field played Midtown Motors in training league play on Wednesday. Owen Becler and Isaac Werth had doubled for Hoover and Ben Sowa doubled for Midtown.

In another training league contest, First Niagara played United Refining. For First Niagara, Will Nebinski had two doubles. For United, Carson Farr had a double to go along with a grand slam and Anthony Errett added a triple. On the defensive side, Errett made an unassisted double play and caught a fly ball to record all three outs in the same inning. First Niagara’s Grady Corey amassed five RBIs in the contest.
