Irma J. Mackey, 91, formerly of 533 W. Washington St., passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013, peacefully, at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Born April 4, 1922 in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late David J. and Sarah J. (Myers) Simons, Sr. She was a 1939 graduate of Bradford High School and a 1943 graduate of the Bradford Hospital School of Nursing.
On March 21, 1944 in the United Methodist Parsonage in Bradford, she married Frank M. Mackey, who died on June 22, 1995.
She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa as a nurse during WWII, came back to Bradford and worked as a nurse at the Bradford Hospital, at Bovaird & Seafang, and retired from Dr. Woodhouse’s office.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, the Susannah Wesley Sunday School Class, and the Bradford Hospital Nursing Alumni, she volunteered for the
American Red Cross during the WWII, and the Bradford Ecumenical Home Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, Frank (Martha) Mackey, of New Kensington, and Michael (Mary) Mackey, of Russell, four grandchildren Todd A. (Sonja) Mackey, Sarah Litz, James M. (Erin) Mackey, and Melissa A. Kushner, 6 greatgrand children, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the HollenbeckCahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main Street and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00.a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Tom Verner, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Committal services and burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
