On May 8, Youngsville High School held its annual academic events. A breakfast for all students and their families who obtained honor roll status three consecutive nine-week grading periods was held in the morning. At 1 p.m. all seniors who have been accepted to a post-secondary education facility signed letter of intent to attend and at 7 p.m. all students and their families who obtained merit honor roll status three consecutive grading periods were honored at a reception and then lettered in academics.
On May 17 YHS held an awards assembly. Each curricular area awarded a student for “Outstanding Academic Achievement” and “Most Improved”. Also a senior from each area was selected to receive a senior plaque for outstanding achievements at YHS. Several community, county, college and military scholarships were also awarded at the event.
Katelyn Maille was nominated by YHS faculty and administration to represent the school in the selection of “Student of the Year” for the Warren County School District. She will be interviewed in the upcoming weeks along with other WCSD nominees for “Student of the Year”.
Baccalaureate practice for all seniors will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the school. Seniors will receive their caps/gowns at this time. If they do not attend baccalaureate, they should make arrangements to pick up their cap/gown in the school office the week of June 3. Baccalaureate will be held on Sunday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at Youngsville High School. This service is sponsored by the Senior Class in cooperation with the Youngsville Area Ministerial Association.
Commencement will be held on Friday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. Practice for all seniors graduating will be at 10 a.m. at the school. The senior breakfast will be held prior to practice at 9 a.m. in the YHS cafeteria. There are no tickets for graduation. No one is turned away. Weather permitting graduation will be held outdoors. In case of inclement weather, graduation will be held in the auditorium and extra seats will be provided.
The Youngsville Wrestling Boosters are selling tickets for a Wine Trail Fundraiser scheduled on Saturday, June 1. Tickets are $40 each. Price includes bus ride, wine samples at each of 6 wineries and snacks along the way. Dinner (on your own tab) will be at Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield before the trip home. YHS Class of ’64
YHS class of ’64 will meet Thursday, May 23, for a class breakfast at the Youngsville American Legion at 9 a.m. This replaces the usual Tuesday lunch for May. Questions, contact Fred Peters 563-9493.
Girl Scout Troop
Girl Scout Cadets Troop has an event planned for June 8 at the Youngsville Agway. The Girl Scout will be giving away 100 free vegetable garden planter boxes to the Youngsville community to promote healthy living/eating and personal sustainability.
Youngsville Boro Office will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day. Garbage will be picked up on Tuesday and Wednesday instead of Monday.
Pool to open
The Brokenstraw Valley Pool opening date is June 8. Season and family passes are still available at the Youngsville Borough office. For information call Lisa at 563-4604
The Memorial Day Parade will start at the Youngsville High School at 10 a.m. The parade will proceed along Main Street to Highland Avenue to Youngsville Cemetery. An Honor Guard Service and memorial to all veterans will take place at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow the parade and ceremony at the VFW in Youngsville. (picture)

The GloryWay Quartet has been spreading God’s word through song for over 10 years, presenting four-part harmony. They have appeared with many of the top groups in the industry including the Dove Brothers, Dixie Melody Boys, the Spencers , Danny Funderburk, Chuck Wagon Gang and others. They also are on the Winding Creek Recording Label , and are represented by Capitol Artists.
