SOFTBALL: Lady Dragons move to 15-1 before playoffs

LAWRENCE PARK – Warren ended its regular season at 15-1 with a 12-1 non-region win at Iroquois on Saturday.

“They are a playoff team, so it was good for our kids to go up against a team also preparing for the playoffs,” said Warren coach Mark Bupp, whose Dragons play at 1 p.m. Thursday vs. Hickory at Allegheny College in the Class AAA playoffs. Iroquois is in Class A. “Our goal was to get off to a good start and build off that, which is exactly what we were able to do.”

Leadoff hitter Kaitlin Ishman was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, and Jaimie Eaton and Paige Wilson added two hits each. Kennedy Walter stayed hit, going 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI as well.

“I was very pleased with the quality of at bats, and she continues to be a catalyst for us,” said Bupp of Walter, adding she’s a perfect complement to Ishman at the top of the lineup. “‘Ish’ kind of got back on track, which helped us.”

Alexa Bupp threw a four-hitter, striking out eight without a walk in the win.
