BASEBALL: Franklin makes quick work of Youngsville
Apparently Franklin had no intentions of staying in Youngsville any longer than it had to on Thursday afternoon.
Arriving to play the remainder of last week’s game that suspended at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, the Knights scored four runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth to win a 12-2, five-inning decision at Davis Street Field.
The teams originally started play on May 8 and were tied 2-2 in the top of the fourth when persistent rain forced suspension of the contest. After giving up two first-inning runs, the Eagles had just responded with a pair of scores in the bottom of the third to tie the game.
Jake Marino hit an RBI double that brought home Andy Kerr and courtesy runner Wyatt Johnson raced home on Aaron Hoover’s sacrifice fly. Franklin came to bat in the top of the next inning and one out was recorded when play was halted.
The Eagles (2-12) probably wish things could’ve just stopped there.
The Knights hit the ball all over the park on Thursday, needing just 27 minutes to turn a tie game into one that ended via the mercy rule.
Youngsville had just two hits in the game. Marino’s double last week was one and James Frazier’s fourth inning double on Thursday was the other.
The Eagles end their season Friday when they host Union City.
