TRACK & FIELD: Eisenhower track teams sweep Johnsonburg to begin week

JOHNSONBURG -Eisenhower began a tough week with a sweep at Johnsonburg on Monday.

“I was very pleased with today’s performances,” said Eisenhower girls track coach Mike Logue. “On the track, we tried to give a couple of girls rest due to the Seneca meet on Thursday and districts on Saturday.”

The Seneca at Eisenhower is being made up due to it being a Region 4 meet, and two days prior to the District 10 Class AA Championships at Harbor Creek.

Eisenhower had a number of firsts, including Julia Bauer in the 1600 (6:16.5), Erica Littlefield led a sweep of the 3200 (17:31.4), Jackie Talasky won the shot put (24-4), Sidney Wallin the discus, Bizz Baran long jump (14-1), Holly Chapman (triple jump), Emily McJunkin high jump (4-7), and Wallin and Apprille Seamens tied for first in the pole vault (6-6). The 400 relay team of Taylor Talasky, Chapman, Tara Sleeman and McJunkin was a winner, as was the 4X400 team of Baran, Bauer, Taylor Talasky and Seamens.

“Erica Littlefield did a nice job of stepping up and filling in holes we had in our lineup,” said Logue.

Ike’s boys team continued its dominating season, improving to 7-1 in dual meets with a 113-36 win.

Eisenhower coach David Bauer said the meet gave many “younger kids” an opportunity to step up.

The seasoned vets also came to play, with Jake VanHouten, for example, running one of the top times in District 10 this season in the 400 not having competed in the event before, “even in crummy conditions,” said Bauer.

Eisenhower won all events, but three; Richard Knisley won the 110 hurdles and javelin, Matt Eernisse the 100, Jacob VanGuilder the 1600, VanHouten the 400 and 300 hurdles, Anthony Amroski the 800, Andrew Onoratti 200 and high jump, Cody McMillen 3200, Tim Lange the pole vault, and Nate O’Brien shot put.
