CHARLES HUGHES

Grove City resident since 1979, formerly of Warren, Pa., Charles E. Hughes, age 81, of 606 Moreland Ave., Grove City passed away in Orchard Manor, (Pine Twp.) on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2013 following a 3 year illness. Charlie was born in Pittsburgh on July 16, 1931. He was the son of the late Regis and Betty Hughes and he married Mary Ann Baskin on Feb. 5, 1955.

Charlie was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1949. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in the Medical Corps, serving most of his military career in Germany till late 1952.

Charlie enrolled in Pennsylvania School of Nursing for Men, Philadelphia, Pa., earning a R.N. degree in 1956. He began his career in 1956 at Warren State Hospital where he was a Psychiatric Nurse and remained there until 1978 when he retired as a building administrator after 22 years of service.

In Dec. of 1978 he took the position of Nursing Home Administrator at Orchard Manor in Grove City. While at Orchard Manor he was instrumental in the development, planning and construction of Fellowship Manor. Retiring from Orchard Manor in 1990, he remained active with Fellowship Manor serving as building Manager for many years.

Charlie was a faithful an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, at home, 4 children; Carol Gray and Lenny, Warren, Pa., Lisa Smith and husband Larry, Grove City, Janice Armstrong and husband David, Warren, Pa. and Charlie Hughes and wife Robyn, Grove City, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral Service: Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad St., Grove City, Pa. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Howard Greenfield and Rev. Willard Morse, both officiating.

Visitation Hours: Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, Pa. on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 24 and 79:00 p.m. and on Tuesday in the chapel of Grace Church from 9:45 till 10:45 a.m.

Burial: Mount Irwin Cemetery, Irwin Township, Venango Co.
