Violet Irene (Bessey) Dunham, age 90, passed into eternity on Wednesday, May 8, at Warren Manor.

Violet was born on April 1, 1923, in Tidioute, Pa. to the late Harry and Daisy (Allen) Bessey. On January 13, 1940, she married Shelby W. Dunham in Youngsville, Pa., where they made their permanent home. She was a longtime member of the Youngsville Evangelical United Methodist Church and the B.I.C. (Believers’ in Christ) Sunday School Class. Violet loved to sing and graced the church choir and congregation with her lovely saprano voice. She also served as communion steward for several years. Violet was an avid walker and pioneered “walking the loop” in Youngsville. She was an excellent cook and baker, wellknown for her homemade yeast rolls. Throughout her lifetime, Violet developed many interests and talents. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating stunning quilts, beautiful clothing, including bridal gowns and attendants’ dresses. She also crafted many dolls and stuffed animals. In the 1970’s, she began a small cake decorating venture, providing unique wedding and birthday cakes.

Violet is survived by two daughters, Nancy Callahan (Robert), Warren, Susan Barton (Jerry), Wattsburg, and one son, William Dunham (Kathy), Sugar Grove. Also, seven grandchildren: Douglas Dunham (Joyce), Union City, Paul Dunham (Holly), Wilson, NC, Debra Backer (Jeff), Mechanicsburg, Pa., Dennis Callahan, Warren, Brian Barton, Harrisburg, Pa., Eric Barton (Micheline), Harborcreek, Pa. and Shaina Barton, Wattsburg, Pa.; ten greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband of fortynine years, Shelby Dunham, on August 5, 1989, her eldest son, Ralph Dunham, on April 11, 1996, her brother, Ralph Bessey, and her sister, Gladys Barnes.

Friends will be received on Monday, May 13, at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St. in Youngsville, for one hour prior to a funeral service that will be held there at 11:00 a.m. Violet’s greatnephew, Rev. Paul Dunham, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Youngsville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association P.O.
