Local fishing tournaments will benefit disabled vets
It’s fishing tournament season in our neck of the woods.
On the lighter side, the Disabled American Veterans(DAV) Chapter 75 and Eagles Club 313 will hold its First Annual carp tournament on Saturday, July 27.
The entry fees are $25 for adults, $7.50 for ages 12 to 16, and children under 12 compete free with a registered adult. The cost of a meal following the tournament is covered in the entry fee. Forms can be obtained and submitted at the Eagles Club, 2101 Pennsylvania Avenue East in Warren; Grizzly Gary Outdoors, 2009 Pennsylvania Avenue East or at www.davchapter75.com. Participants may also mail the forms and checks to DAV Chapter 75, 3010 Mount Hope Road, Titusville, Pennsylvania 16354.
The tourney begins a 12:01 a.m. on July 27, and will end in time to be in line at the weigh station at the Eagles Club parking lot by 4 p.m.
All fish must be caught in Warren County, and all Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission rules and regulations apply.
In May and June the chapter will conduct the 12th Annual Walleye Tournaments on the Allegheny Reservoir.
The Giordano Memorial Tournament will be held on May 18 and 19, with registration at the Corydon Hotel near Willow Bay from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 17.
The Brant and Fields Tournament will take place on June 22 and 23. Competitors will register from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 21 at Wolf Run Marina.
Entry fees have been reduced this year to $175 per two man team. Prize money for the tournaments will be determined by the number of teams fishing on the first day of the competitions, and divided by two because both days will have payouts.
The highest scoring teams of the season will be recommended to Cabela’s for eligibility in the Cabela’s National Team Championship Tournament until the spaces allotted by Cabela’s are filled.
Proceeds from the DAV Tournaments are used to transport our local veterans to their needed VA medical treatments.
