BASEBALL: Fairview 10-runs Youngsville; Ike falls to Lakers

FAIRVIEW – It’s been a difficult week for the Youngsville baseball team.

Facing their third game in three days – and fourth this week, the Eagles fell to Fairview, 13-3, on Friday night.

The top of the order was a bright spot for Youngsville, as Jake Marino scored two of the three Eagle runs and Aaron Hoover went 3-for-3 with a home run and all three of his team’s RBI.

Youngsville grabbed an early lead in the first, when Marino led off with a walk and Hoover followed with a two-run shot, and pitcher James Frazier shut down the Tigers in the bottom half of the inning by striking out the side.

After giving up one run in the second, things began to unravel for Frazier, as the Tigers put up twelve runs over the final three innings.

Frazier is typically an outfielder for the Eagles, but was pressed into starting duty due to a depleted roster and the amount of games played this week.

The Eagles added their final run in the fifth when Marino led off with a double, stole third, and came home on Hoover single.

“(Frazier) started out really good, with three strikeouts in the first inning,” Youngsville coach Wayne Marino said. “After that, it kind of went south on him. (Fairview) hit the ball well. But he didn’t walk anyone, and that’s a good sign. We knew it was going to be a rough game going in. I’ve got two players on class trips and (pitcher) Caleb Linkerhoff is injured.”

The Eagles (2-8) will attempt to put an end to their losing streak on Monday, when they travel to Titusville.

Mercyhurst Prep 9, Ike 2

ERIE – Eisenhower falls to 3-8 overall after losing its second game in a row, 9-2 on Friday at Mercyhurst Prep.

Eisenhower coach Jon Vincent said the Knights allowed too many leadoff hitters to reach base, and too many stolen bases.

Ike, which next hosts Franklin on Monday, did not score until the seventh inning, and had just five hits. Casey Vincent was 2-for-3 and Jeb Fedorchuk tripled with a run scored in the loss.
