Golf results

Pete Hofert had low gross of 38 and Hofert and Jim Fehlman shared low net of 36 in Youngsville Area Senior Golf League play Tuesday at Maplehurst Country Club. Hofert, Jack Abplanalp and Emil Bundy had two birdies each during play and Gary Krueger, Dave Peck, Dave Lang, Dave Dibble, John Minavio and Frank Suppa had one birdie each.

Tim Watkins and Joe Saber shared low gross of 36 and Mike Lewis, Dave Pearson Jr., Mark Sternberg, Watkins and Saber shared low net of 29 in Tuesday Night Golf League play at Jackson Valley Golf Club. Here are the team standings through Tuesday’s round:

College news

Youngsville High School graduate and Pitt-Bradford women’s softball team member Amber Fox scored the first run of the game for the Lady Panthers in the second game of a doubleheader loss to Alfred on Tuesday.

Fox, a freshman, is hitting .205 for Pitt-Bradford in 22 appearances (20 starts) in 2013. She has scored four runs and hit one home run with five RBI, helping the Lady Panthers to an 18-14 record.

Dance news

The Dance Express Company recently competed at the I Love Dance Competition held April 27-28 in Buffalo, N.Y. The team finished with 11 first-place awards as well as two second-places and two third-places. The team also won the Best of Show award for the number “Never Gonna Turn You Loose.” The piece was choreographed by Molly Dies and Nicole Cunningham.

Jillian Funari won the “Junior Sweetheart of Buffalo” award and was first overall in the 9-11 year-old division. Adam Flagella was second overall in the 12-14 year-old division and Abby Funari was third overall in the 15-17 year-old division.

The Junior Dance Express was also in competition and finished with two first-place awards.

Late Over 30

Mangione Beverage scored early and often during it 13-3 opening night victory over Accent Staffing in Over 30 Modified Softball League play Tuesday at Betts Park. Mangione’s scored in every inning but the second to end the game via the ten-run rule.

Scott Chase was 5-for-5 with two home runs for the winners while Tim Munksgard, Brad Johnson and Mark Ordiway also homered for the winners. Ed Baldensperger tossed a three-hitter and collected the win. Scott Bines was 1-for-3 with a homer in the loss for Accent Staffing.
