Charles L. “Charlie” Hoag, age 78, a lifelong resident of Warren, Pa., (Starbrick) passed away at his residence on Thursday, April 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was born May 13, 1934, in Warren, Pa. to the late Ernest J. Hoag Sr. and Arlene G. Swanson Hamm.
Charlie had been employed at Warren Tank Car during high school and graduated in 1954. He was employed by Penn Furnace in the 1950’s, at Dorcon in maintenance from 1960 1968, and at Warren Steel as Superintendent for 27 years, retiring in 1995. He was considered a jack ofalltrades, working as an electrician, carpenter, welder, auto mechanic and performing auto body repair in his garage.
He enjoyed woodworking; making furniture, lawn ornaments and toy boxes for his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He loved visiting with his brother, children, grand children and greatgrand children. He especially enjoyed his faithful companion, a rat terrier, Lucky.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Chapel of Irvine and Karen Simmons of North Warren, one brother Ernest J. “Butch” Hoag, Jr.; four grandchildren, Charles Chapel, Jennifer Adams, Valerie Marquis and Scott Simmons; nine greatgrand children; and two nieces, one of which is Lisa Card, his loving caregiver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Hoag on November 3, 2004, whom he married on July 25, 1953; a brother, Frederick B. Hoag and a soninlaw John Simmons on April 8, 2002.
A funeral service will be privately held for the family, with burial to follow at Westview Cemetery.
