In a city in its 25th year in the Tree City USA program, Arbor Day is a big day.
Warren’s annual Arbor Day celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lacy Park at the corner of Madison Avenue and Marion Street.
There will be a welcome by Paul Brohn of the street landscape committee and Louise Dyer of Warren Garden Club and a proclamation by city councilman John Lewis.
The program will include a history of Arbor Day by Adele Tranter of the Garden Club, the presentation of the Tree City USA 2013 flag and recognition of 25 years in the program by Cecile Stelter of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, the dedication of the Arbor Day tree (a silver maple) and a discussion of the silver maple and proper planting techniques by Brohn.
Penn State Master Gardener Pay Durry of the Garden Club will be available to answer questions.
Refreshments and red oak seedlings will be provided, compliments of the Garden Club.
