BASEBALL: Youngsville falls at Franklin
FRANKLIN – Youngsville continued its three-game losing skid Saturday afternoon, losing to the Franklin Knights by a score of 17-6 in a Region 4 contest at Franklin High School.
The hosts put up three runs in the first inning, nine in the second, and five more in the fourth to defeat the Eagles via mercy rule. Chris Kahle went 2-for-2 with five RBI for the Knights, and Nate Cardy added four RBI while going 2-for-3 at the plate.
“Franklin is a good team,” said Youngsville coach Wayne Marino. “We definitely cut down our errors, but even if you take those away they still would have beat us. I think our baserunning improved and we hit the ball better; they were just the better team.”
Youngsville’s Caleb Linkerhof drove in three of his team’s six runs, going 2-for-3 at the plate before leaving the game due to injury. Tyler Lehman was 1-for-2 with his first home run of the season, driving in two and scoring two runs for the Eagles (1-4, 0-3).
Youngsville’s non-region game at Fairview, originally scheduled for Monday, has been tentatively moved to Tuesday so Fairview can make up a region game according to District 10 rules. The Eagles next region contest will be Wednesday when they travel cross county to visit Eisenhower at Werner Park in Russell.
