Schedule changes

The Warren at Girard baseball game scheduled for Wednesday will now be played at Warren’s Old Legion Field in North Warren. Girard will now host Warren on Monday, May 6.

Gymnastics

Russell’s Mariette Williams represented the Lakewood Starz gymnastics team in the Western PA Level 5-9 Championships on Saturday. Williams was the all-around, bars and beam champion in the Level 6, 12-year-old division. Williams scored a 34.20 in the all-around, an 8.70 on the bars and a 9.10 on the beam. Williams added a third-place finish on the floor with a score of 8.10 and also scored an 8.30 on the vault.

Big 30 addition

Warren Area High School senior Austin Jerman is the latest Warren County addition to the Pennsylvania team for the 40th Annual Don Raabe Big 30 Charities Classic football game scheduled for Saturday, August 3, at Bradford’s Parkway Field.

Jerman is a 6’2, 180-pound quarterback and defensive back who is Warren’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns at Warren. Jerman was named first-team All-State at defensive back and is the only quarterback in District 10 history to record two 2,000-yard passing seasons.

Rescheduled

The Sheffield at Ridgway softball game postponed on March 25 will be made up on Monday, April 22, at Sheffield Area High School. A doubleheader will be played and the first game will begin at 3 p.m.

The Johnsonburg at Sheffield softball game postponed on March 27 will be made up on Wednesday, April 24, at Johnsonburg High School. A doubleheader will be played and the first game will begin at 3 p.m.

The Sheffield at Johnsonburg junior high track & field meet postponed on April 10 will be made up on Wednesday, April 24, as a four-way meet with Otto-Eldred and Smethport. The location of the meet has been changed to Sheffield Area High School and action will begin at 4 p.m.

The Kane at Sheffield softball game postponed on April 10 will be made up on Monday, April 30, at Sheffield Area High School. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

Umpire training

Those planning on being umpires for the upcoming Warren County Youth Baseball-Softball Association season will have field training at 5 p.m., Sunday, at the Farm Colony Complex in North Warren. Scheduling for the 2013 season will follow at 6:30 p.m. Umpires must be present or made arrangements with head umpire or commissioner if unable to attend.

Dragon fund-raiser

The Dragons Baseball Spaghetti Dunner Fund-raiser will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Grace United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall, featuring the “St. Joe’s Meatball Ladies” with Rose Troyan as head cook. Tickets ($8, or $4 for children under 10, and under two is free) may be purchased in advance, and a limited number will be sold at the door.

Troyan milestone

Warren Area High School graduate Fran Troyan picked up his 600th career coaching victory on Saturday as head coach of the Division I Lehigh University women’s softball team – sweeping a doubleheader, 6-5 and 2-0, from Army in Bethlehem, Pa.

Lehigh (lehighsports.com) is 22-13-1 and 8-2 in the Patriot League, in first place by two games at the halfway point of league play. Lehigh also extended its winning streak to six games with the sweep.

Correction

Warren’s Jordan Willetts was second in the 400-meter dash at Saturday’s Harbor Creek Invitational. He was misidentified in Monday’s Times Observer.
