Celebrate Operation Christmas Child

The Northwestern Pennsylvania Operation Christmas Child Area Team will host an informational meeting to celebrate the 40,376 shoeboxes filled by Erie, Crawford and Warren County residents last fall and to mobilize volunteers for 2013. For thousands of shoe boxes – filled with toys, school supplies and necessity items – this region is their first stop on a journey around the world. At this event, coordinators will celebrate the successes of 2012 and be inspired and motivated by stories shared of the difference these simple gift-filled boxes make in the lives of children around the world. The meeting will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Pleasant Community Church, 673 Pleasant Dr., Warren.

Operation Christmas Child, a project of international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan’s Purse, headed by Franklin Graham, is the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected more than 100 million shoe box gifts and hand-delivered them to needy children in more than 130 countries. This year, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect another 9.8 million gift-filled shoe boxes, with 45,000 coming from Erie, Crawford and Warren Counties.
