SOFTBALL: Lady Dragons start 2-0

ERIE -With the weather, Warren’s bats heated up in a 14-0, five-inning Region 7 win over Central Tech on Tuesday in Erie.

“I was really happy with the way we came out in the first inning,” said Warren coach Mark Bupp, whose Dragons led 6-0 after one inning and improve to 2-0 on the young season. “It was great to see everyone contribute at the plate.”

Kaitlin Ishman started the top of the first off with a triple Jaimie Eaton singled her in to start the game. After Alexa Bupp sacrificed Eaton over and Meghan Loutzenhiser walked Paige Wilson and Erica Blair had-back-to-back singles to make it 3-0 Warren. With the bases loaded, Taylor Mineweaser had an RBI hit by pitch, before Kathryn Lobdell’s two-run single.

The freshman catcher Wilson had a “huge day at the plate,” said Bupp. Wilson finished 4-for-4 with five RBI in her second varsity game. Three hits went for extra bases, including a home run. Warren had nine extra-base hits.

“She has stepped in and done a nice job,” said Bupp. “Right on her heels was Meg (Loutzenhiser) with a great day at the plate, scoring four runs with three doubles. ‘Ish’ (Ishman) also had three hits.”

Blair made a nice diving try at Central Tech’s only hit of the game. Alexa Bup finished with six strikeouts and three walks in the one-hit shutout for Warren – at Strong Vincent on Thursday.

Wilson and Loutzenhiser also had triples in a 3-3 junior varsity tie after four innings.
