Margaret Alice O’Donnell, 92, formerly of Sugar Grove, Pa. and a resident of Murphy, NC passed peacefully in her sleep Thursday. April 4, 2013. She was the daughter of the late George Leo and Mary Alice Whitney Newvine of Gouverneur, NY.
Margaret was a homemaker until 1987 at which time she became involved with the Sugar Grove Senior Center, where she prepared meals for the Meals on Wheels program. She retired in 2005 at the age of 85. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great greatgrandchildren. She loved playing bingo, spending time at the casino, taking bus trips with her friends from the Senior Center, and vacations with her family. She especially enjoyed her trip to Aruba where she celebrated her 80th birthday.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Marvina) O’Donnell, Phoenix, Az., and Gary O’Donnell and partner Jackie Williams, Sugar Grove, Pa., and two daughters, Mary (Bobby) Johnson of Murphy, NC, and Malou (Gary) Jordan, Warren, Pa. She is also survived by one sister Rosella Pearl Liscum, Ogdensburg, NY, a brotherinlaw Philip Carpenter, Herman, NY, and a sisterinlaw Dorothy Newvine, Port Orange, Fla.
Margaret has 22 surviving grandchildren, Michael Bero, Warren, Pa., Karen Lobdell, Clarendon, Pa., Richie Bero, Pittsfield, Pa., Kelly Day, Warren, Pa., Connie Hartley, Atkins, Ark., Bobby O’Donnell, Russell, Ark., James O’Donnell, Warren, Pa., Rhonda Wolfe, Richmond, Va., Dena Pratt, Warren, Pa., Robert Dale, Sneads Ferry, NC, Tammy Dale, Holly, NY, Michelle Foura, Winchester, Va., Todd Jordan, Pittsfield, Pa., Melissa Wilson, Warren, Pa. and Shamus O’Donnell, Sugar Grove, Pa. There are also 22 greatgrandchildren, several greatgreatgrand children and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Curtis O’Donnell, brothers Lewis Henry and George Andrew Newvine, sister Mary E. Newvine Carpenter, son John Wayne O’Donnell, daughter, Diane Kay Dale and greatgrand daughter Mary Margaret Bero.
There will be no funeral services at this time. Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to hospice or the charity of choice.
