Holiday notice

The Youngsville Borough offices and services will be closed on Friday in observance of Good Friday.

Street closed

Starting Thursday, April 4 and continuing for approximately four weeks, Railroad Street will be closed from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. for water line replacement and road milling. Please call the Borough office with any questions, 563-4604.

New location

Youngsville Free Methodist Church invites you to join them on Sunday, March 31st for Easter Service at 10:30 a.m. at the new location, 179 Davis Street. Everyone is welcome.

Science Symposium

Youngsville High School will be holding its annual all-school Science Symposium in the school gymnasium on Friday, April 5. The hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will be featuring projects from students at all grade levels. There will also be some displays from outside agencies. The event is free and open to the public.

Benefit for pool

Friends of Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool, Inc. will hold a fundraising Dance at the Youngsville Fire Hall on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Ron Carrington and “Touch of Gold” will be playing from 8 until 11 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Snacks will be provided and doors open at 7. Sportsman’s raffle

The Youngsville Touchdown Club Sports Boosters will be holding a Spring Sportsman’s Raffle on Saturday, April 13, at the Youngsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Doors open at 6 p.m. Event starts at 7 p.m. Things to be raffled include, but are not limited to, guns, crossbow, kayak, duck hunting items, camping items, fishing items, and many more. Advanced tickets for the Emotion Glide Kayak are on sale now from any Touchdown Club member, Weidners Deli on Rt 6 in Youngsville, as well as Youngsville Hardware. Tickets are $1 each and the winning ticket will be drawn at the event on April 13th. Food and Beverages will be provided, admission is free, must be at least 18 to attend.

Tickets on sale

Wine tasting tickets for the Fine Art and Vino Venue are now on sale for the Saturday, April 20, event at the Youngsville Fire Hall. Presale tickets are $10. Only 300 tickets will be sold with commemorative wine glass sponsored by Northwest Savings Bank. Tickets will be $15 day of the event. Tickets are available at Youngsville Pharmacy, Allegheny Artistry, Warren County Insurance, Allegheny Cellars Winery or by calling 814-730-2899.

Art competition

The entry form for the second annual Fine Art and Vino Venue Art Competition at the Youngsville Fire Hall presented by ROY ( the Revitalization Of Youngsville ) and sponsored by PNC Financial Investments-VP Rob Maring, can be found on the website at Please click on the Fine Art Competition page. Wine contest

An Amateur Wine Contest, sponsored by Warren County Insurance, will be held with the Fine Art and Vino Venue, hosted by the Revitalization of Youngsville. It is open to all amateur winemakers age 21 and over. The entry fee is $5/bottle and you may enter as many bottles as you wish. Bottles must be labeled with the following: name, category, and wine ingredient (grape, fruit, berry, etc.) Categories include: Dry Red; Sweet Red; Dry Blush; Sweet Blush; Dry White; Sweet White; Non Grape-Fruit and/or Berry. Medals will be awarded for each category along with a Best of Show. Entry forms/payment are due no later than April 1. Bottles may be dropped off at Allegheny Artistry no later than April 18. Nut rolls

The Religious Education students at St. Luke Catholic Church are raising funds for food for the poor. The funds will be used to build a house for the poor in the Caribbean. To that end, orders are being taken for Annie Yucha’s famous nut roll. The nut roll is also sold at the St. Luke Polish Fair booth at the Warren County Fair. The cost of the large nut roll is $10. Over 75 have been ordered so far. If interested contact Mary Ann Devore at 563-9873. Orders will be ready by Easter.

Comedy Night

Saturday April 20, 6-9 p.m., the Garland Community Center will host an Amateur Comedy Night. Admission to the event is free. Comedians are wanted and need to sign up to entertain. Call Cheryl at 563-4374. Cash prizes and the audience judges. Vote for your favorite comedian by placing a donation in their can. The comedian with the most donations wins. No children or teens permitted unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. Food and refreshments will be available.

YHS Scholarships

The Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship application is now available in the YHS Guidance Office. Applications may also be accessed through the District website at: under the Youngsville High School, Guidance Office tabs. This award is open to all YHS seniors who plan to continue their education in a post-secondary setting, whether a 2 or 4 year college or university or in any other technical or business program. Seniors are encouraged to apply for the money that has been so generously offered by the Alumni Association. The due date for this application to be returned to the guidance office is May 2.

Bicentennial Celebration

June 28, 29 and 30, 2013 will be the Youngsville Bicentennial Celebration.

Friday night is the play ” A Beautiful Prospect” at the Youngsville High School at 7 p.m. If you would like to be a part of this please call Barb Luce @ 563-4936. Organizers are also planning a scavenger hunt around Youngsville the time to be announced later.

Saturday is the celebration on the Island Park grounds, old-fashioned games for children and adults, demonstrators, food vendors, an apple pie baking contest, beard contest, best period costume and music. The parade is at 11 a.m. If you would like to participate in the parade call the borough office and leave your name and phone number. There will be historical walks around town in the afternoon and the fireworks at the Rouse Home that night. Sunday is a community picnic at 1 p.m. with music to follow after.

The committee is looking for memorabilia from Youngsville’s history. If you have anything that you would lend the committee for a display in the Island Park Building please call Patty Farr @ 563-7870. The committee is also looking for volunteers to help out the day of the celebration. The next meeting of the committee is April 6 at 9 a.m. at the borough building.
