Hufnagel’s Letter

Dear Warren County Community,

I first want to thank you for your support over the last year and a half as we worked to find solutions to the financial and educational difficulties that the WCSD was facing. Without your support we would not have been able to move into the positive direction that the school district is now headed.

As many of you know, my wife and I had our second child, a beautiful baby girl. Spending time with my family over Christmas and seeing what I missed of my daughter’s growing up, my wife and I decided that I needed to be home to be a father. There is so much that I missed with Olivia over the past 18 months, that I will not get back and I don’t want to miss a single moment of Elizabeth growing up. I accepted the position of superintendent with the full intention of moving my family to Warren. Over time that changed as my wife and I decided that staying closer to our extended family was more important than the job.

There are rumors around about my departure that I want to clear up. My resignation was on my own account and was not forced. In recent weeks you may hear about a mistake that I made with the district credit card while at Seneca Allegany Casino. It was embarrassing and I immediately informed the board when I realized the error. Payment was made to the bank to cover the expenses and I apologized for the error.

I am enjoying the time I currently have with my wife and two daughters. Watching Olivia adjust to the changing family, seeing the new things that Elizabeth is doing every day and spending quality time with my wife is what I need to do, because to me, family is the most important.

Wishing you the best
