Robert G. Dersam, 86, of Rowley Road Sugar Grove, Pa., passed away at 6:55 a.m., Sunday, March 3rd, at Warren General Hospital.

Robert was born in Dale, NY on January 25, 1927, a son of the late Doris and George Dersam. He was known as “Diesel Bob” and was self employed, having worked in many oil fields in Warren County and also for Curtis Oil Company.

He belonged to the AMVETS in Sugar Grove and the American Legion Post #758 of Sugar Grove. He loved NASCAR where Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. He enjoyed reading the Warren Times Observer from cover to cover. He very much enjoyed his dog, Cookie. He loved to mow the lawn and sit by the camp fire with family members. He was a member of the Bliss Fire Company in Bliss, New York for 34 years.

He was the husband of Mary Jane (Southwell) Dersam whom he married July 23, 1981. Also surviving are a son Jeffrey (Marlene) Rowley, of Sugar Grove, Pa.; daughter Laurie (Rick) Welsh, of Frewsburg, NY; daughter Lisa (Peter) Eckman, of Lander, Pa.; daughter Lynn (Jeff) Eckman, of Lander, Pa.; daughter Candy (Mike) Frazier, of Fillmore, NY; daughter Tina (Neil) Howell, of Arcade, NY; daughter Robin (Rick) Hobin, of Arcade, NY; sister Marilyn (Skip) Glosser, of Warsaw, NY; sister Betty McCullough, of Perry, NY; brother Wayne Dersam, of Florida; 24 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren, 1 greatgreatgrandchild, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Rowley in 1992, a grandson, Jeffrey Alden Rowley II in 1992, his first wife, JoAnne Dersam in 1968, a daughter, Kelly Carney in 1994, a grandson, Brett Demers in 1998, a brother, Donald Dersam, and a brotherinlaw, Harold McCullough in 2012.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 9 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Branch of McKinney Funeral Homes where a funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6th, 2013. Burial will be in Wesleyan Cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family suggests those wishing to place memorials may do so to Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
