Frances Josephine “Corky” Merrill, 70, of Warren, Pa., passed away on March 4, 2013 after a short, but courageous fight with leukemia at Warren General Hospital. She was born March 11, 1942 in Warren, Pa. to Earnest Andrew VanCise and Frances Irene Dunlop VanCise.

Corky was a 1960 graduate of Eisenhower High School. She was a long time hair dresser working at various local establishments including the Powder Puff, Josies, Hair Boutique, Command Performance, and VanCise Electrology and Hair.

Corky was a devoted member of the Ladies Group “The 4L’s”, President of the Russell PTA, member of the Cable Hollow Church and the First Church of the Nazarene.

She enjoyed camping and the outdoors, knitting, crocheting, and needle crafts, traveling, baking, “Sister Trips”, and most importantly, her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, and love of practical jokes.

She is survived by her loving husband A. Ronald Merrill whom she married on October 13, 1990 in Sayre, Pa., children Vance (Michelle) Lauffenburger, Russell; Ramona (Bill) Barry, Akron, Ohio; Emily (Steven) Onuffer, Warren; Ruby (Charlie) Pope, Scandia; Bobette Irby, SanDiego, Ca.; Pam Merrill, Batavia, NY; Beverly “Danielle” Merrill, NJ; grandchildren Jacob, Alex, and Libby Lauffenburger, Nathan and Lindsay Onuffer, Benjamin Wright, Ryan MerrillRife, Cami Turner, Jeffery and Anjelika Yates.

Her siblings Lillian (Donald) Cable, Russell; Ruthie (Lloyd) Gray, Russell; David VanCise, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Larry (Lori) VanCise, Warren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother William VanCise, still born brother Daniel VanCise, sister Martha Joann VanCise, and sister Janet Pearl Brosius.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. G. A. Hankins, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at Warren County Memorial Park.
