Tidioute Charter School to host Drug Awareness Night

The Tidioute Community Charter School (TCCS) Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) group will be hosting their second annual Drug Awareness Night on March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the TCCS Gymnasium.

Justin Ludwig, originally from Mt. Pleasant and now a resident of Warren County, will be the keynote speaker at the event. Ludwig is a certified recovery specialist at Deerfield Behavioral Health and has been speaking in several schools around the area. The closing speaker at the Warren County SADD Conference last year, Ludwig will be talking about his past as a drug addict and his recovery and being clean for nearly five years.

Mandie Englert, the SADD advisor for TCCS and a life skills instructional aid, is looking forward to the event and hopes that it will make a difference.

“I want to let people know that there is hope; there are a lot of resources out there,” said Englert. “I understand that Warren County has a big drug problem and the more awareness that we are able to bring the better.”

In addition to Ludwig, there will be additional speakers who will present their autobiographical experiences with drug addiction.

“If I can help one or two people or help parents or grandparents be aware of the signs (of drug addiction), then my mission will be accomplished,” added Englert.

There will be hotdogs, soda and popcorn for sale before the presentation and during intermission as well as a bake sale that will benefit the Melissa Courtney Scholarship fund.

This free event is open to the public.
