Internet scam. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Youngsville Borough Police have both received reports of Internet scams from two different Warren County residents. Police said both persons were searching the Internet when they received a message allegedly from the U.S. Department of Justice. The message advised the residents that they were viewing a flagged illegal website and were being fined $450. Instructions were given on how to pay the fine and where to send the money. Police said this is an Internet scam. Both departments urge residents to be careful and pay close attention. Police also emphasized that law enforcement agencies, whether local, state, or federal, do not send fine notices or criminal violations by the Internet. Persons with questions should contact any law enforcement agency.

Theft. Warren-based state police investigated an incident of theft which occurred between 6 a.m. Dec. 21 and midnight Dec. 23 at 992 Townline Road. According to police, someone stole several silver collecting coins and a Marlin 336-SC lever action special rifle with attached scope and walnut stock from the residence of Dawn Hesslink, 35, Russell. Police said the items are valued at approximately $11,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police or Warren County Crime Stoppers.
Crash. Marienville-based state police responded to a one-vehicle accident on Feb. 17 at 5:15 a.m. on Rt. 127. According to police, the crash occurred as Thomas Byers, 41, Tidioute, was northbound on Rt. 127 when he lost control of his 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 due to icy road conditions. The vehicle crossed the centerline and went off the western side of the roadway, traveled approximately 96 feet in a northbound direction before hitting a tree approximately 10 feet from the roadway. Police said Byers sustained a minor head injury and was transported to Titusville Hospital via Tionesta Ambulance for treatment of injuries. Police said Byers, who was wearing a seatbelt, was cited for driving vehicle at safe speeds. The vehicle sustained severe front-end damage and was towed from the scene.
