Varsity slate

Here is the varsity slate of action for county winter sports teams for Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2:

FRIDAY’S SCHEDULE

Wrestling: Warren at PIAA Class AAA Northwest Regional Tournament, at Altoona High School, 5 p.m.

Eisenhower, Youngsville, Sheffield at PIAA Class AA Northwest Regional Tournament, at Sharon Area High School, 5:15 p.m.

Boys Basketball: Eisenhower vs. Vision Quest or Kennedy Catholic, District 10 Class A Championship or Consolation Game, at TBA, time TBA

Swimming: Warren at District 10 Class AA Swimming Championships, at Penn State Behrend, 1:30 p.m.

SATURDAY’S SCHEDULE

Wrestling: Warren at PIAA Class AAA Northwest Regional Tournament, at Altoona High School, 9:30 a.m.

Eisenhower, Youngsville, Sheffield at PIAA Class AA Northwest Regional Tournament, at Sharon Area High School, 9 a.m.

Swimming: Warren at District 10 Class AA Swimming Championships, at Penn State Behrend, 8:30 a.m.

College news

Youngsville High School graduate and California University of Pennsylvania baseball team member Cory Craig tossed an inning of scoreless relief in his collegiate debut during the Vulcans’ 13-4 victory over the Charleston Golden Eagles on Sunday.

Craig and the Vulcans (3-0) return to action Wednesday, hosting Penn State Greater Allegheny in a doubleheader.

Trap meeting

The Warren White trap team will hold a mandatory shotgun safety course for all first year shooters at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Sportsmen’s Club. All first year members must take this course prior to shooting. For more information, call 757-8467.

Youth mat

Two county members of North East’s Ragin’ Raisins wrestling team competed at the Burrell Super Trophy Tournament this past weekend in Lower Burrell. The tournament featured over 400 wrestlers from Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and West Virginia.

Russell’s Logan Jaquay finished second in the 9-10 year-old, 65-pound weight class while younger brother Gannon Jaquay competed in the 8 & under, 65-pound weight class.

Youth soccer

Warren defeated Maple Grove, 6-3, in the Junior Varsity division of the Lakewood Family YMCA Indoor Soccer League. Kathryn Lobdell scored two goals and Paige McCullough, Aldyn Poston, Gabrielle Enserro and Claire Abplanalp scored a goal each for Warren. Justine Lasecki, Poston and Abplanalp had assists. Defensive standouts where Katelyn Leonard and Olivia Ashbaugh. McCullough and Lobdell where goalkeepers.
