A Pittsfield man is being held on charges stemming from a violent assault which police say lasted more than two and a half hours early Tuesday morning.

Warren-based state police took Norman Clarence Kenney III, 47, Pittsfield, into custody Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted a 38 year-old female multiple times between 2 and 4:30 a.m. at a residence along Rt. 27 in Pittsfield Township.

According to police, the woman suffered multiple abrasions, cuts, bruising, contusions, blackened eyes and swollen extremities before she was able to escape and awaken a neighbor.

The neighbor is reported to have contacted police.

Police said Kenney was arraigned before District Justice Cynthia Lindemuth and is being held in the Warren County Jail on charges of felony aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment.

Bail is set at $75,000.
