Long-time baseball coach Rick Eaton taking over at Warren, with son assisting

There will be a few familiar faces as new head coaches this spring sports season, including one coach who will slide one seat over for the defending District 10 champs.

Long-time high school baseball coach Rick Eaton will move from assistant head baseball coach at Warren Area High School coach to head varsity coach, after the resignation of long-time coach Jeff Passaro.

Eaton has been an assistant coach with Warren for the past eight seasons, after being Eisenhower’s first high school baseball coach when the program started at Ike.

Coaching highlights include a District 10 title coaching Eisenhower in 2003, and a District 10 title and 16-4 record as assistant coach at Warren last season. Eaton has been a part of six region championships coaching at Warren.

A 1977 graduate of Eisenhower High School who played baseball at Gannon University, Eaton became assistant coach at Warren when his son, Jeff Eaton, started playing high school ball.

Now Jeff – a recent health and physical education graduate of Slippery Rock University – will become his father’s assistant coach, along with Warren’s Andy Teconchuk.

Official PIAA practices begin for the spring sports season on March 4.

At Youngsville, the assistant coach last year, Wayne Marino, is also becoming head baseball coach, replacing Tom Craig. Marino, also an Eisenhower product – a 1986 graduate, has a son on the team, centerfielder Jake Marino.

Youngsville has a young team, following a 4-12 season. The Eagles last made the playoffs two seasons ago, including a District 10 Class A playoff win.

Youngsville’s softball team also has a young team, but has made the District 10 Class A playoffs the past two seasons under long-time head coach Mark Nyquist. Previously a volunteer coach with two daughters on the team, 1987 Youngsville High School graduate Ron Jameson will be the new head coach.

In addition, Rusty Barr, an assistant boys track and field coach previously at Sheffield, is now the head boys track coach there, replacing Bryan Gould.

Returning spring head coaches include: Eisenhower-Jon Vincent, baseball; R.J. Williams, softball; David Bauer, boys track, and; Mike Logue, girls track; Sheffield-Traci Vile, softball, Jenelle Johnson, girls track; Warren-Mark Bupp, softball; Jeff Bartsch, boys tennis; Steve Norris, boys track, and; Mark Sweet, girls track; Youngsville-Jeff Manelick, boys track, and; John Victor, girls track.
