Hessley running for county D.A.
Warren attorney Bernard T. Hessley announced on Tuesday his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Warren County District Attorney.
Hessley, 36, is a native of Warren and has practiced criminal law in the area since 2006. A partner at Hessley Law Offices in Warren, he became the first attorney in Warren and Forest County to be certified by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to act as lead counsel on Capital Homicide Cases.
Hessley said he began his career serving as Judicial Law Clerk to the Judge Stephanie Domitrovich in Erie County from 2002 to 2004, before being appointed Chief Felony Drug Prosecutor for the Erie County District Attorney’s Office; a position that he cited as motivation to run for district attorney in Warren County.
“It was the most rewarding experience I’ve had as a lawyer,” he said. “It was work I really enjoyed and something I always hoped I’d get back to. I look at running for District Attorney position not as a political goal, but as a career goal.”
“The position of District Attorney is unique in the law; it is a position of trust in the community. It is your job to ensure that the communities’ laws are enforced, victims are respected and justice is done under the laws of the Commonwealth and United States.”
“However, being District Attorney is more than just the work you do at the Court House, you also must be present and active in the community you represent.”
“It is my belief, as the chief law enforcement office in the county, if you are going to be holding citizens accountable for their criminal conduct, then you have to hold yourself accountable to the citizens you are charged with protecting and serving.”
The primary election is scheduled for May 21.
