Florence Elsie California, 77, of 901 Yankee Bush Road, Warren, Pa., died peacefully surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Warren General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Florence was born November 6, 1935, in Warren, Pa., the daughter of the late Walter and Edith Rodgers Gray. A lifelong area resident, Florence was a 1953 graduate of Warren High School. She was later employed at GTE Sylvania in the Laboratory as an Inspector for twentyeight years, from which she retired in 1993. She was a member of the Starbrick Community Church. Florence enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling. She cherished time spent with family and friends and made every Christmas a memorable event for all. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James “Tim” California, Warren, Pa.; whom she married on February 22, 1954, and would have spent fiftynine years together at the end of this month.
Florence is also survived by one daughter, Darcee Nell and her husband David; two sons, James California, and wife, Kim; and Mark California, and wife, Patricia; five grandchildren, Danielle Nell Eaglen, Lindsey Nell Wilson, Jamie California, Kristi California and Jared California; two greatgrandchildren, Chase and Quinn Eaglen.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John “Jack” Gray and Frederick Gray.
Friends will be received at the Peterson Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Thursday, February 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held there on Friday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain, Rouse Warren County Home, and Warren General Hospital, officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Warren County or the Warren Cancer Care Center, 2 Crescent Park West, Warren, PA 16365.
