BOYS HOOPS: Three-point shooting helps Orioles fly past Youngsville
ROCKY GROVE – Youngsville ran into a hot shooting Rocky Grove team on Wednesday, dropping a 63-48 decision in a varsity only contest at Rocky Grove High School.
The Orioles (7-13) were on fire from long range early and often, finishing with eight made three-pointers to Youngsville’s none. The Eagles held a three-point lead after the opening quarter, only to watch the Orioles pull ahead, 29-25, by halftime.
The biggest difference in the game came in the fourth quarter where the Orioles were able to turn a six-point lead into the 15-point final margin with a 19-10 edge in the final stanza.
Tom Chapman had a strong game for the Eagles (2-12), finishing with 14 points and getting to the line for 16 free throws. Teammate Collin Lehnen played perhaps the best game of his varsity career, matching Chapman’s 14 points.
The team’s two leading scorers entering the game – Broc Horn and Coll Dininny – were held to seven and 10 points respectively.
Youngsville returns to the court Thursday when it travels to Class AAA Conneaut.
