Edward L. Hunter, 85, of Warren, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at his home.
Edward was born June 19, 1927, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Lee and Mayme Ramsey Hunter. Ed joined the US Navy in November 1944, where he was stationed in Okinawa for 20 months. He was selfem ployed in the trucking industry from which he retired. Ed had many organizations he was involved with, and was especially proud of his service with the Disabled American Veteran’s group-reaching a milestone after logging over 100,000 miles driving Veterans to hospitals. He was a life member of the Elk’s Lodge 223, he was also a member of the VFW Sheffield 8755 and Color Guard, American Legion Post 135; and Eagles Aerie 313, Warren. He was also recently nominated as Veteran of the Year in Sheffield.
He is survived by five children, Thomas L. Hunter, and wife, Sue, Hemot, CA, Timothy L. Hunter, and wife, Nannette, Covina, CA, Charles A. Hunter, and wife, Susan, Billings, MT, Diane R. Ockunzzi, and husband, Dave, Menifee, CA and Michael E. Hunter, and his companion, Lorena Kandt, Ontario, CA; one brother, Jeffrey Hunter, Jamestown, NY; seven grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on December 20, 2006, by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Saber, whom he married on June 20, 1947; three sisters, Doris Hyde, Dorothy Hunter Pring and Margaret Anderson.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to a memorial service to be held at the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Penna. Ave. E., Warren on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Haley, pastor, Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Warren County Memorial Park.
