GIRLS HOOPS: Lady Knights sweep series with Youngsville

The Lady Knights wasted no time in jumping ahead of visiting Youngsville on Saturday night, as they completed the series sweep of their county rivals, 63-52, at Eisenhower High School.

Eisenhower opened the game on a 12-2 run, and the Lady Eagles couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole as they drop to 4-13 overall and 1-8 in Region 3. With the win, the Lady Knights improve to 8-9 on the year with a 4-6 region mark, and remain in District 10 Class A playoff contention.

“It was a great night for our team. Everyone who played performed well,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue. “We did a good job getting rebounds, and saw some good minutes out of our bench. I’m very, very pleased.”

Holly Chapman led the offensive attack for the Lady Knights with 20 points on a 7-for-12 shooting performance from the field. Kristen Williams was close behind with 17 points, and Alyssa Peterson added 10 in the win. Chapman grabbed nine rebounds and Peterson eight in the win for Ike, which plays at Strong Vincent on Tuesday. Williams had four assists and four steals, Brooke Stanton five steals, and Danielle Bradish four assists.

“Holly really did a tremendous job rebounding and scoring for us tonight,” added Logue. “Kristen Williams does a good job running our offense and making good decisions with the ball.”

For the Lady Eagles, Kennedy Cratty posted a game-high 29 points, including 11-for-14 from the free throw line. Twin sister Karissa Cratty added eight points, as the two accounted for a majority of the Youngsville offense.

Both teams will be in action against tough opponents next week, as the Lady Eagles travel to Cochranton for another Region 3 match-up on Tuesday and the Lady Knights visit Strong Vincent at Wayne Middle School in Erie the same day.

Eisenhower used a big fourth quarter to down Youngsville in the junior varsity game, 38-32. Mallory Trumbull and Kristen Wagner each scored 11 points for the Lady Knights, while Aubree Hendrickson paced the Lady Eagles with 10.
