Dr. Karl J. Fritz, Jr., 91, of North Warren, died peacefully, Friday, February 1, 2013 at Warren Manor, where he resided for several years.

Dr. Fritz was born January 7, 1922, in Johnstown, Pa., the son of the late Karl J. and Amelia (Malzahn) Fritz, Sr. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1939 and went on to the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his BS degree in 1943 and medical degree in 1945. Between 1942 and 1943 he was commissioned and appointed to the Army Administrative Corps. Following his internship at Hamot Hospital in Erie, he served as a Captain and medical officer at the March AFB, Riverside, Ca, between 1946 and 1948. He completed his residency in radiology at the Hines VA Hospital in Chicago, Ill. and served as head of radiological services at the Veteran’s Administrative Hospital, Muskogee, Okla. After moving to Warren in 1956, he was employed as a radiologist at Warren General Hospital, Warren State Hospital and Kane Community Hospital until retirement.

While living in Warren, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Medical Association, and the Pennsylvania and Warren County Medical Societies. He enjoyed classical music, woodcarving, gardening of all types and wildlife, especially birds. His greatest pleasure was his family and the companionship of his wife, the late Erma M. (Baldwin) Fritz, whom he married January 18, 1947 at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Erie.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Miller and her husband, Tom, Kalida, Ohio, and Wendy Lyle and her husband, Jeff, Coopersburg, Pa.; a granddaughter, Adele Kleman and her husband, Brian, Perrysburg, Ohio; a grandson, Brent Miller, Fairborn, Ohio; two greatgrandsons, Gavin and Ian Kleman; and two nieces and a nephew, all of Erie.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Rulli, and his daughter, Kathy M. Fritz.

Friends will be received in the Dunham Parlors at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market Street, Warren, Pa. for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held in the sanctuary on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Jeffrey D. Sterling, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, Pa.
