GIRLS HOOPS: Lady Wolverines snap losing streak

RIDGWAY – Jen Isenberg scored 27 points and Sheffield snapped a six-game losing skid with a dominant 52-27 victory over Ridgway Friday at Ridgway Area High School.

The Wolverines are now 7-13 with just two games remaining on the season. Sheffield closes its home scheduled Tuesday against Curwensville before finishing the year Thursday at Youngsville.

On Friday, the Lady Wolverines rushed out to a quick 10-point lead and were never challenged the rest of the way. Isenberg was the only Sheffield player to reach double figures, but the big performances weren’t limited to just the standout sophomore.

Hannah Vile had a huge night on the boards, pulling down 14 rebounds and Abby Labesky dished out 10 assists.

“It was a very strong game for us,” said Sheffield girls coach Jeff Labesky. “We played well from the opening tip and got some very nice performances. Plus it’s always good to end a losing streak.”

Sheffield won its second straight junior varsity game, defeating the Lady Elkers, 41-34. Tierra Hanson led the winners with 15 points.
