COCHRANTON – Cochranton’s Madi Bernarding didn’t miss much on Thursday.

When she did, her Cardinals teammates were there to clean up the mess.

That proved to be a deadly combination for the Eisenhower Lady Knights during a 65-22 loss to the Cardinals at Cochranton High School.

Bernarding finished with 14 made field goals and 32 total points, scoring at least six points in each stanza, including a game-high 10 in the second quarter.

“They had a height advantage on us to begin with and we didn’t play with a lot of intensity,” said Ike girls coach Mike Logue. “Bernarding was just shooting lights out and it made for a very tough night for us.”

The Region 3 matchup was one-sided from the beginning as Bernarding got hot early and never slowed up. The Cardinals held a 19-7 lead after a quarter and led 34-14 at halftime.

Eisenhower (7-10) was led by the eight points of Holly Chapman and Kristen Williams, Halie VanOrd and Dakota Williams finished with four points each. Brooke Stanton pulled down a team-best five rebounds.

The Knights return to action Saturday, hosting Youngsville (4-12) in a pivotal Region 3 showdown.

Cochranton won the junior varsity game, 36-14. Haylie Birt paced the Knights with four points.
