Gymnastics

Three Warren County gymnasts, competing for the Lakewood Starz gymnastics team competed in a dual meet with Corry held Saturday. Individual event first-place awards were achieved by Emily Goodwill, Morgan Hoffman and Mariette Williams.

Jr. high/J.V. wrestling

Members of the Warren Area High School junior varsity and Beaty-Warren Middle School junior high wrestling teams competed and placed the Corry Junior Varsity/Junior High Tournament this past weekend.

Bailey Winslow placed third in the 113-pound junior varsity weight class and four wrestlers placed in the junior high ranks. Tyler Mahood (75 pounds) was first, Nick DeSimone (122) was second and Jacob Engstrom (95) and Blake Ristau (110) were both third.

At The Union City Ring of Fire Youth Wrestling Tournament, Billy Anderson (9-10 year-old, 105 pounds) and Austyn Cummings (11-12, 145) placed second, Alex Anderson (11-12, 75) and Carter Borland (11-12, 125) were third and Beau Paris (11-12, 85) and Zach Zinger (11-12, 95) were fourth.

At the Harborcreek Super Trophy Youth Tournament, Jim Kramer placed first in the 11-12 year-old, 80-pound weight class.

Mat rankings

Youngsville’s Jaykup Durlin is the highest ranked county wrestler in Dan Albaugh’s most recent District 10 Class AA wrestling rankings released on Monday. Durlin is ranked third at 220 pounds.

Three Eisenhower wrestlers are currently ranked fifth, including Steven Haner at 113 pounds, Jeb Fedorchuk at 120 pounds and Jake Johnson at 195 pounds.

In Rob Coleman’s Class AAA rankings, Warren’s D.J. Fehlman (26-1) reclaimed D-10’s top spot at 126 pounds after his 8-3 victory over General McLane’s Keller Watkins in the finals of the Fred Bell Memorial Tournament held this past weekend at Grove City High School. Fehlman is also ranked first in the Northwest Region.

Warren’s Garrett Smead is ranked fourth in the district at 152 pounds, Chris McNeal is ranked third at 182 pounds and Alex Streich is second at 220 pounds.

Jr. high hoops

The Beaty seventh-grade boys basketball team recently went 2-1 in a three-game stretch of outings. In a victory over Eisenhower, Rylan Fitzgerald led the Dragons with 15 points, Kohl Nosel and Elliot Gross scored seven points each, Chris White and Andrew Davidson four points each and Nathan Betts and Ryan Munksgard two points each.

In a 38-37 buzzer beater loss to Franklin, the Dragons were led by the 14 points of Nosel and 11 points of Fitzgerald. Munksgard and Davidson chipped in six points and Betts and Colby Johnson two points each.

In a 30-13 victory over Meadville, Beaty got a 10-point effort from Fitzgerald as well as six points each from Nosel, Davidson and Gross and two points from Adam Irwin.

The Dragons (11-3) host Kane on Wednesday.

Sheffield recently played junior high basketball games against Beaty, Kane, West Forest, Ridgway and St. Leo’s. In the ‘A’ game against Beaty, the Dragons were a 48-31 winner. Sheffield was led by the six points of Austin Zimmer and Logan Connolly. Drew Higby finished with five points, Dan Rulander and Tanner Leichtenberger four points each and Kyle Corbin and Cody Benjamin three points each. Beaty was led by the 13 points of Noah Becker, 10 points of Braiden Blair, eight points of Tyler Gigliotti, five points of Jake Kessing, four points of Andrew Anderson and two points of Reed Swanson, Tristan Davis, Derrick Nowacki and Seth Baldensperger.

Against Kane, the Wolverines dropped the ‘A’ game, 37-31. Cameron Retterer led Sheffield with 10 points, Nick Kipp chipped in nine markers, Connolly finished with eight and Emmitt Murphy and Rulander added two points each. In a 32-16 ‘B’ game loss, Murphy and Jobe Morrison led Sheffield with four points and Cale Albaugh, Brayden Camp, Zach McGraw and Roger Dunham added two points each.

Sheffield was a 47-8 winner in a single game against West Forest. Albaugh paced Sheffield with 12 points, Murphy added nine, McGraw eight, Zimmer six, Dunham and Retterer four points each and Higby and Leichtenberger two points each.

In the ‘A’ game against Ridgway, the Elkers defeated Sheffield, 25-17. Connolly led Sheffield with seven points, Zimmer added six and Rulander had four. In a 48-20 ‘B’ game loss, Higby led the way with five points, Zimmer and Retterer added four points each, Leichtenberger, Murphy and Dunham had two points each and Nate Benson finished with one point.

Against St. Leo’s, Sheffield was a 33-28 winner in the ‘A’ game. Retterer finished with 12 points, Zimmer added six, Higby five, Connolly four, Cody Benjamin three, Fred Bailey two and Dunham one. The Wolverines dropped the ‘B’ game, 34-21. Zimmer scored eight points, McGraw five points, Leichtenberger four points and Murphy and Benson two points each in the loss.

Sheffield returns to action Thursday, visiting Brockway. The Wolverines will also play at Eisenhower Saturday before finishing the season Tuesday at Youngsville.
